Vehicle Technician Fleet Maintenance School Year 2022-2023
The Vehicle Technician performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of all school board and county vehicles.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs preventative maintenance check-ups and services on all gas and diesel vehicles and equipment Completes all repairs on school and county vehicles such as the replacement of valves, pistons, and main bearings; assemble cooling, fuel and exhaust systems Inspects, adjusts, repairs, and overhauls brakes, ignition systems, differentials, and rear axles Responds to emergency road calls from disabled vehicles, makes minor adjustments, or has the vehicle towed to the fleet facility Performs miscellaneous duties such as shoveling snow and clearing parking lots Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
The Vehicle Technician Must Demonstrate Knowledge of:
Performing skilled automotive mechanical work on gas and diesel vehicles
Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Knowledge of safe working techniques with self and fellow employees with the use of the necessary hand and power tools pertaining to the field
The Vehicle Technician Must Demonstrate the Ability to:
Perform tasks in accordance with school division practices and procedures
Consult supervisor on all matters not considered routine
Communicate tactfully in written and oral modes
Maintain supplies and equipment
Maintain and prioritize work orders
Repair or replace all vehicle components
Listen, read, and employ visual acuity to complete essential job functions
Differentiate between colors
Have a valid Virginia drivers' license
Education, Licensing Preferred:
Certified National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence Master Automotive Technician.
Virginia State Safety Inspector
Experience: (number of years required)
Three (3) years experience as a professional Technician repairing gas and diesel vehicles Successful completion of a four-year apprentice program
Education Required: (degree required - high school through graduate degree)
High school diploma or GED certificate
Special Vocational Requirements: (Voc. Ed., OJT, Licenses, Work Experience)
Note: Work experience, vocational training, on the job training, may be substituted in place of experience and education qualifications as the district finds appropriate and acceptable.
The mechanic must hold a valid state drivers' license to operate commercial vehicles with an endorsement to operate a bus.
The Vehicle Technician is required to attend safety training seminars.
The employee must pass a yearly physical and participate fully in the drug/alcohol screening program. License to drive a school bus in the State of Virginia

Starting Salary: 37,751 This is a 12 month contract with benefits.
