Job Description The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our school. We are looking for a caring and motivated ASL Specialist located in Salt Lake at the JMS Campus.
Principal Duties As an ASL Specialist you will: -Provides language support through the use of American Sign Language (ASL)/English intervention services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students with the purpose of guiding each child toward language proficiency. -Acts as a resource on ASL for students, families, and other professionals. -Communicates proficiently with students in the language that provides the best possible access to content and communicates in ways that facilitate learning. -Provides one-on-one instruction, small group instruction, and large group instruction. -Provides immersion opportunities to facilitate language development. -Collaborates with other classroom teachers, speech and language pathologists, and the division director to ensure that the individual needs of children are being met. -Plans learning experiences utilizing school curricula, IEP goals and objectives, and other appropriate materials and activities. -Prepares lesson plans, reports and keeps records of student progress. -Improves professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional growth activities. -Conducts ASL language assessments, both formal and informal, for IEP evaluation.
