Job Summary
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (licensed) to serve K-12 students with a range of disabilities. Will contribute to maintain programs according to the treatment plan established by the Occupational Therapist. The COTA will provide feedback to the therapist regarding changes needed for student programs. They will maintain program data and assist in evaluations, progress monitoring and collaborating with school personnel. COTAs will also support the training of paraeducators who work in the Special Education Related Services Department and the schools.
 
Essential Functions
  • Provide occupational therapy services to students by direct or consultation to address range of motion, sensory strategies and techniques, fine and gross motor activities as related to IEP goals under the supervision of an OTR.
  • Maintains daily records of treatments and document progress notes.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers and teams by developing classroom interventions.
  • Complete all other tasks as assigned by the School and District administration.
  • Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • A combination of classroom study and clinical fieldwork skills are needed.
  • The ability to interact with students, families, and school teams.
  • The ability to precisely follow a treatment plan an Occupational Therapist has developed.
  • Respect for students’ privacy and confidentiality regarding medical records and information is also required.
Required Education and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have a current COTA license
 
Required Prior Experience
Experience in pediatrics preferred
 
Assigned Decision Making
Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, decisions regarding treatment plans, data collection/analysis, and student progress will be made.
 
Interactions with Others
Interacts positively and communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, teachers, administration, and other district personnel.
 
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g., recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.

Working Environment
Work takes place in a typical school environment.  Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstations.
 
Physical Requirements – Not limited to the following:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear.  Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.  Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
