Job Summary:

The Hourly Home/Hospital General Education Teacher is responsible for teaching students that have issues that prevent them from attending a regular school. 

Essential Functions:
  • Provide effective instruction in reading, language arts, mathematics, and other subject areas as needed.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum and instruction to accommodate the needs of each student.
  • Strictly adhere to Granite School District and outside agency procedures and policies.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means, to discuss the student’s progress.
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding the student’s academic and personal growth areas.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional learning activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
  • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Be a positive role model.

Required Education and Qualifications:
  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
  • Requires one of the following:
    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with one of the following license areas;
      • Elementary;
      • Secondary; or
      • Special Education;
    • an equivalent license in another state or country; or
    • verification of completion of an approved educator preparation program that will result in one of the licenses listed above prior to the date of hire.

New program graduates who have not yet received their license must upload a conferral letter from their university program in lieu of their license.  This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific areas in which the applicant will be licensed.

Working Environment:
  • Work takes at various locations based on student need, often a hospital or private home.
  • Position requires travel to multiple non-district locations in all types of weather and air quality.
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
