Job Summary
Responsible for providing support to refugee families.
Attendance and physical presence are required and is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
- Provide direct support to refugee families as they arrive in the district.
- Assist in the initial and ongoing school registration of refugee students which may include home visits.
- Assist with student transition from Tumaini Welcome and Transition Center to home schools.
- Work with schools that need support with refugee families.
- Arrange school meetings to address parent and school concerns.
- Assist is scheduling interpreters as needed for parent/school meetings and home visits.
- Report all issues to the Director of Educational Equity regarding concerns that may arise between schools and refugee students/parents.
- Maintain a good working relationship with refugee agencies.
- Document all interactions with refugee families/students and prepare reports as needed.
- Must have own transportation and willing to travel between schools/home visits and meeting locations.

- Other duties as assigned
- Excellent public relation and organizational skills, including computer skills.
- Ability to work with school administrators.
- Public presentations skills preferred.
- Must have a working knowledge of all levels of the school system and requirements for student entry and exit.
- Ability to work with at-risk students.
- Ability to work with refugee students and families.
- Bilingual preferred
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have own transportation
Bilingual preferred
Interactions with Others
Interacts positively with students, parents, teachers, counselors, principals, refugee agencies, and other district personnel.
Physical Requirements – Not limited to the following:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Must be able to stand/stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
