General Function:
The health aide assists school nursing personnel by performing routine health-related tasks and
clerical services, under the direction of the school nurse, to aid in the health care needs of
students and staff.

Summary and Overall Objective:
The health aide assists school nursing personnel by performing routine health-related tasks and
clerical services, under the direction of the school nurse, to aid in the health care needs of
students and staff.
Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:
With appropriate training and certification, administers first aid when necessary.
As designated by school nursing personnel, assists self-directed students to take assigned medications that are kept in the school health office.
Follows established school procedures for care and reporting of injuries and illness. Consults with school nursing personnel regarding unusual or difficult problems.
Assists school physician and/or school nurse in physical, visual, screening examinations or other health screening tests of students and employees.
Assists school nursing personnel with clerical tasks surrounding making referrals to parents resulting from screening procedures and physical examinations.
Assists with immunization clinics by recording inoculations, preparing individuals and keeping order.
Assists school nursing personnel in preparing health displays for the purpose of disseminating health and wellness information to students and staff.
Under the supervision of and direction from the registered professional nurse, the individual performs all duties and responsibilities assigned as well as additional duties as necessary.

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance.
Able and willing to maintain confidentiality of health information
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, public groups, and/or the ICSD School Board.
Ability to work with applicable mathematical concepts.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out essential duties of this position.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems involving concrete variables situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required.
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma
Preferred Education and Experience:
Holds current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid. Has had
experience/training in a school health setting.

Must acquire cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid certification with the first year of position

Employees working under this position description are considered to have regular contact with
students who may place the incumbent at risk to bodily fluids.
These employees are eligible to receive the Hepatitis A and B vaccines from the Southwest Utah Public Health Department, at no cost.

The employee frequently is required to stand, sit or stand in a bent or stooped position, walk, reach with hands and arms, use fingers and hands to handle, and talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
School Registered Nurses must be able to lift up to, but not exceeding, 55lbs on an occasional basis. A team lift or utilization of the necessary equipment is recommended if any other items or persons exceed this weight limit.

Regular school hours as needed
Travel Requirements:
Regular travel within district required
Some instate travel needed for meetings or conferences
