JOB DESCRIPTION

TEACHER – K-6 Physical Education Teacher

POSITION TYPE   Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION

Teachers and instructors in Charles City County Public Schools are expected to provide instructional and administrative leadership, supervision and management for all students in the division. Teachers are expected to act as energetic and dynamic facilitators of student learning through student-centered project­ based approaches to ensure that the curriculum is learned and able to be applied by all students. All teachers are expected to, through research, collaboration and intentional planning, incorporate higher order thinking skills, effective communication skills, and knowledge of technology tools to be competitive in a global knowledge society. Ultimately, teachers in CCPS are expected to facilitate learning, empower students to "learn how to learn", and shape the culture of their classrooms to support student learning.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree - Master's preferred - in teaching or related field or content area from an accredited institution.
  • Holds a professional license with a teaching endorsement at the appropriate level .
  • Willingness to continue to learn, add endorsements and apply for dual enrollment as necessary.
  • Demonstrates professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.
  • Ability to move about in room to monitor students and check work in classrooms with varied seating and desk organization patterns.
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis with evidence of satisfactory daily attendance to work; as well as, to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position.
  • Ability to monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior, including outdoor activity areas, gymnasiums, etc.
  • Possess high moral standards and integrity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOTLIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Plans, prepares, and delivers classroom instruction for all students among the wide array of academic and intellectual needs with or without disabilities, using instructional material that facilitates active learning.
  • Provides a positive classroom environment that affords scaffolding and promotes student learning for all students.
  • Researches, identifies, and uses needed resources, strategies, technology, and materials for classroom instruction to meet varied student needs to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Complies with state laws; school board policies; division regulations, and school procedures.
  • Build relationships with students by establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed for an orderly, productive and respectful classroom and school environment.
  • Models and encourages productive citizenship and respectful conduct of students.
  • Demonstrates positive school-community relations by participating and engaging in a variety of school and community events.
  • Uses a variety of formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and assign corresponding grades.
  • Provides meaningful and timely feedback (orally and written) on student work; required written reports; communicates routinely, through a variety of methods, student progress to students and parents.
  • Maintains accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Models professional demeanor through professional dress, speech and actions.
  • Engages parents in the educational process of educating and supporting students.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and administration.
  • Actively participates in professional growth activities and demonstrates professionalism.
  • Contributes to the total school program by serving on governance teams, committees and task forces in the school and division such as: student assessment teams; Child Study; Eligibility; IEP; and other professional Committees.
  • Contributes to a safe educational and working environment by participating in all drills and training and being prepared to take action should a health or safety emergency occur.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are normally performed in an office/school environment. Noise and physical activity is high and demanding. The ability to multi-task and focus on details is essential.

EVALUATION

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
