The job of SpEd Para II is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned clasroom teacher with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom or in a self-contained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; and monitoring student behavior during instructional and non-instructional time.
Full Job Description
Paraprofessionals work under the supervision of a special education classroom teacher. They assist special needs students in grades 1-6. Paras instruct the students on their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals including: Academics (Language Arts - reading and writing, and math), Fine Motor skills, Gross Motor skills, and Self Help skills. Self Help skills include supporting the students' goals in eating, dressing, grooming and toileting. The paras will follow the class and individual behavior management plans that are set up by the classroom teacher. Paras will be expected to supervise students in the lunchroom, on the playground, and they will supervise the students as they load and unload their buses. The paras will also support students when they attend their general education activities. Paraprofessionals must maintain student and school confidentiality and must follow the directions of the classroom teacher.
16+ years old.High school diploma or equivalent.
Job related experience is desired.
