Location:  Cedar High School

Expected Work Hours:

  • 27.5 hrs/week

  • Split schedule 

  • During regular school hours

 


 

General Function:

Under the direction of the school principal, working with the Learning Strategies teacher to assist students who are in need of additional academic support.  Establishes effective rapport with students and motivates students to develop appropriate academic skills and attitudes leading toward improved academic standing, including credit recovery, in order to foster greater independence and responsibility in the student.

Summary and Overall Objective:

Under the direction of the school principal, working with the Learning Strategies teacher to assist students who are in need of additional academic support.  Establishes effective rapport with students and motivates students to develop appropriate academic skills and attitudes leading toward improved academic standing, including credit recovery, in order to foster greater independence and responsibility in the student.




 

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support credit recovery with students that are struggling academically

  • Administer and help with GradPoint credit recovery software

  • Track student credits and monitor student academic progress in GradPoint software

  • Work with a Learning Strategies teacher to collect, document, manage, and use data to inform student intervention plans, referrals for additional supports, problem solving, schedules and services to benefit students. 

  • Able to use Google Suite effectively (i.e.Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides)

  • Communicates constantly with classroom teachers, support staff, students and parents 

  • Ensure that changes to student programming are data driven and documented effectively. 

  • Provides instructional support assistance to individual students and student groups.

  • Works with school professionals and other paraprofessionals to build the school's capacity to address student’s academic needs. 

  • Maintains current knowledge and improves skill application by participating in regular on-going professional development 

  • Adheres to all local, state, and federal policies and procedures for special education and behavior compliance.

  • Supports and helps to develop plans for students who have struggled with attendance and Tier I classroom behavior.

  • Participates in the development, maintenance and carrying out of systems for classroom management. 

  • Guides students in working and interacting harmoniously with other students. 

  • Operates various types of office equipment such as computers, copy machines, etc.

  • Complies with established district policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required. 

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Associates degree or 48 college semester hours (72 quarter credits) from a college or university; 720 hours on a certified transcript from a technical school or passing results (460) on the ETS ParaProfessional Assessment

  • If none of the above requirements have been met, the applicant must be willing to take and pass the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment within 2 months of hire (Cost of Assessment is $80 and is the responsibility of applicant).

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Previous experience in a public school setting is preferred.

 

Job Related Experience:

  • Previous experience in a public school setting is preferred.

  • This position does not require any certificates or licenses.

Work Environment: 

  • The employee will work in a learning strategy room where students come for academic support when in need of credit recovery 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Employees working under this position are considered to have regular contact with students who may place the incumbent at risk to bodily fluids.

 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel, and talk or hear. 

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. 

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. 

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • The employee is occasionally asked to escort and assist children as necessary

 

Machines, Tools, Equipment Used: 

  • Copy machines and high speed duplicators. 

  • Computer technology. 

  • Video equipment including VCR, camcorders and TV equipment. 

  • Classroom Technology (i.e., projectors, document Cameras, SMART Boards, etc.)

  • Contact with dissatisfied individuals
