Delivery Driver

Salary Range:  $31,581 - $40,510

Position Function:
Performs responsible semi skilled work in the operation of motorized equipment and the delivering of materials, supplies and mail; does related work as required.  Work is performed under regular supervision.

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and hazards.

Essential Functions:

This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with 

  • Picking up, sorting, processing and delivering mail, textbooks, food supplies and other materials; delivering other school supplies and materials.
  • Collects and sorts out going and inter-office mail;
  • Picks up and delivers mail on an assigned schedule and route;
  • Assists in textbook depository;
  • Receives food service orders, collects and loads supplies and materials;
  • Delivers food supplies to schools;
  • Assists at the warehouse;
  • Delivers and collects audio visual and instructional supplies;
  • Cleans and maintains trucks and equipment used;
  • Performs custodial duties as required;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing trucks; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of equipment; thorough knowledge of school locations and delivery process; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the operation of motorized equipment.

Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
