School Counselors (PreK-12) - 2022-2023 School Year
Must hold a license issued by Virginia Department of Education.
The license must be in one of the following types: Postgraduate Professional License, Provisional License, Pupil Personnel Services License, Statement of Eligibility.
The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Admissions/Registrar, Counselor/Guidance, Financial Aid, Minority/Multicultural Affairs, Pupil Personnel Workers, Residence Life, School Liaison Officer, School Nurse, Social Worker, Truancy Officer.
The license must be in one of the following grades: Preschool/Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th.
The license status must be active or about to graduate from a state-approved teacher preparation program. Expired certifications will be considered.

Fluvanna County Public Schools seek to hire a School Counselors (PreK-12) for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

SUMMARY:
To provide direct instructional, behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health resources and supports to all students while collaborating with staff, local agencies, and families to ensure appropriate access to services to foster successful outcomes for all students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Counsels students with learning, physical, social, and emotional concerns and focus areas
Lead both individual and group conferences with students and staff
Collaboration with School Social Worker to assist with attendance concerns and compliance
Act as Social Worker liaison
Monthly attendance and OOC meetings
Work with school personnel regarding monthly attendance meetings
Provide behavioral support and plans for students to successfully transition back into home school
Provide occupational information programs introducing the student to the world of work
Assist with identifying students with special needs
Maintain accurate and up-to-date permanent record folders
Consult and communicate with all stakeholders regarding student success plans
Interpret objective data to classroom teachers, parents, and students
Work closely with classroom teachers in planning and implementing group counseling sessions based on the developmental needs of all students.
Arrange case conferences involving all stakeholders and coordinate the efforts of all specialists working on a case.
Assist with community service activities
Acquaint teachers and families with psychological personnel and services available
Act as the liaison between school and community agencies in working with students
Provide for articulation between the sending school and the receiving school.
Communication and collaboration with site based school administration and school counselors
Transitional planning for students incorporating goals and objectives for success at site based schools
Undertake, in a cooperative endeavor, the continuous evaluation of:
the nature and scope of the guidance services as outlined above,
the functioning of guidance as an integral part of the total educational program, and
the effectiveness of guidance services
Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Federal and State Special Education guidelines
Knowledge of IEP development and the Eligibility process
Ability to assist staff in the development of legally compliant and documentation for students as required to provide FAPE as outlined by IDEA and section 504
Ability to maintain attention to detail and work with various teaching styles
Ability to be independent and lead teams in an manner consistent to the mission and goals of FCPS
