JOB TITLE: Bilingual Instructional Assistant
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal
GRADE/RANK: IA O1
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
The bilingual instructional assistant provides assistance to the classroom teacher(s) in the management and instruction of English Learner students; performs work under the direction and supervision of the classroom and English Learner teacher(s); and works in collaboration with the English Learner teacher and staff to translate and communicate with families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
The minimum performance expectations include, but not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
Works closely with the English learner teacher and classroom teacher to effectively support instruction for students; Collaborates with the English learner teacher and staff to translate school documents and communicate with families; Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information; Discusses assigned teaching area and works with English learner teacher and classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts; Assists students, individually and in groups, with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts; Assists teacher(s) in maintaining a classroom environment that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff; Assists in ensuring the adequate safe supervision of all students; Reliable attendance and prompt arrival time. Reports promptly to assigned/designated location and/or area; Attends required meetings and in-services; Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies; Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities and; Performs other duties as assigned by classroom teacher(s) or building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
