The job of Foreman Energy Management (HVAC Controls) is done for the purpose/s of energy management services with specific responsibility for guiding assigned workers; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; providing information on energy consumption and the proper use of energy control systems; identifying repair and or replacement needs; monitoring, programming, and maintain energy control systems; providing infirmation on the operation of energy systems; and supporting other departments to minimize energy costs.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborates with utility companies (e.g. local power, natural gas, water, etc.) for the purpose of gathering information to compare pricing structures and obtain pertinent information.
  • Coordinates with administration and other trades (e.g. administrators, teachers, district technical staff, utility company personnel, architects, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Develops functional and system/software requirements for the purpose of addressing organizational needs and providing operational capabilities to users, enhancing existing systems and providing solutions to problems.
  • Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in energy systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or system repair and replacement needs.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and district energy standards (e.g. conducts training programs for district staff in relation to energy management, HVAC control systems, etc.) for the purpose of providing information for decision-making, taking appropriate action, and/or complying with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g. specifications, energy usage trend reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up to date reference and audit trail.
  • Monitors utility billings for the purpose of recommending methods of cost containment.
  • Oversees assigned personnel and the day to day activities and operations (e.g. full-time technicians, hourly workers, trainees, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner and maximizing the efficiency of the workforce.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Prepares reports and written materials related to assigned activities and personnel (e.g. district energy standards, HVAC control specifications, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information, and maintaining a history of performance and age of district HVAC systems.
  • Procures equipment and supplies (e.g. needed controls, parts, software, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items in order to complete jobs efficiently.
  • Programs (e.g. HVAC systems, electrical systems, etc.) for the purpose of adjusting the programs for maximum efficiency and to identify current or potential problems in the system.
  • Repairs HVAC system controls and components and obsolete equipment for the purpose of providing maximum building efficiency.
  • Researches a wide variety of topics related to District energy and HVAC control systems (e.g. current methods for energy conservation, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and established guidelines, securing information for planning.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from internal and external sources for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.
  • Serves as a technical resource to department and district staff for the purpose of providing information and/or advice regarding active or planned projects.
  • Trains assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use the new and/or existing operating systems and application software.
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.
