PRIMARY FUNCTION:
 
To provide leadership for the school staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program and to administer the program in accordance with School Board policies and administrative regulations.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  1. Hold the Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement or provisional endorsement in administration and supervision or as principal.
  2. At least five years of successful, full-time experience as a teacher, supervisor, or administrator with at least two years of the experience being at the elementary level.
  3. Have demonstrated the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, and families.
 
REPORTS TO:  Chief Academic Officer
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  1. To provide and monitor an instructional program consistent with the goals and objectives of the school division.
  2. To provide for the continuing development and implementation of an effective instructional program through classroom supervision and instructional leadership.
  3. To work with the school staff and community to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and appropriate student behavior.
  4. To utilize available supervisory personnel to insure an effective instructional program.
  5. To supervise and evaluate the performance of each member of the school staff and establish individual programs for improvement consistent with the division’s staff development program.
  6. To advise the personnel office of staff needs, and to participate in the recruitment, employment, assignment, promotion, transfer, non-renewal, and dismissal of licensed and classified personnel.
  7. To organize and supervise matters related to student registration, scheduling, orientation, and the development of the master schedule.
  8. To work with other school and division administrators to provide for horizontal and vertical articulation of the instructional program.
  9. To foster effective, home-school communication by providing opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and other matters of mutual concern, and by encouraging community involvement in school activities.
  10. To supervise and evaluate all student activities and programs and to insure appropriate student discipline at all school-sponsored events.
  11. To foster effective school-community relations by working with advisory groups, and social service agencies, and by facilitating community use of the school as established by School Board policy.
  12. To promote good working relationships among staff members.
  13. To devise and administer a school budget, utilizing all available funds, which is consistent with division instructional and administrative goals; to supervise the maintenance of accurate bookkeeping and accounting of school funds.
  14. To exercise leadership in the development, implementation, and interpretation of School Board policies and division regulations.
  15. To maintain proper utilization, care, and attractiveness of buildings and grounds.
  16. To be involved in professional development to the extent necessary to keep abreast of developments in elementary school education and in the field of education generally.
  17. To perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.
 
TERMS OF Employment:  12 Months
