Certified Athletic Trainer
Position is to provide athletic training services to student athletes for practices, home games, and all football games. Maintain records, develop and maintain a budget and inventory for all athletic training supplies. Act as a liaison between family physicians, specialists, school district, athletes, and parents.
Reports To: Principal and Student Activities Director
Essential Job Functions: Teach one block per day at the high school level. Provide “Athletic Training Services” to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act. Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests (excluding golf) and away varsity football games. If a conflict arises between an away football game and a home contest, the varsity football event will supersede. During the fall season home contests are attended by the ATC in order of Football, Field Hockey, and Volleyball when two or more are held at the same time. During the spring season home contests are attended by the ATC in order of lacrosse, soccer, track and field, softball, baseball, and tennis when two or more are held at the same time. Provide athletic training services for practices being held after school. Provide athletic training services for pre-season on-field football practices and out-of-season sports conditioning. Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes, and their parents Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments. Develop and maintain a budget for the athletic training program. Develop and maintain a functional inventory of capital equipment and expendable supplies of athletic training room. Maintain supply of hydration related equipment for each team. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program. Hold and maintain certification by the Board of Certification. Hold and maintain a valid state license by the Virginia Board of Medicine and valid license through the Virginia Department of Education with appropriate endorsement.
Athletic Training Services: The management and provision of care of injuries to a physically active person as defined in the state practice act with the direction of a licensed physician. The term includes the rendering of emergency care, development of injury prevention programs and providing appropriate preventative and devices for the physically active person. The term also includes the assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of the physically active person whose conditions are within the professional preparation and education of a certified athletic trainer. The term also includes the use of modalities such as mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, electricity, sound, massage and the use of therapeutic exercises, reconditioning exercises and fitness programs.
