Job Summary:
The Special Education Severe Coordinator is responsible for supporting students, and teachers of students, with severe disabilities in various special education settings throughout the district.

Essential Functions:
  • Organize professional development for special education teachers.
  • Provide coaching to special education teachers on developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and how to conduct IEP eligibility meetings.
  • Provide support to school teams to ensure compliance with Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) federal regulations and Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Special Education Rules.
  • Provide coaching on district-approved English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics curriculum and assessment measures.
  • Participate in district level Professional Learning Committees (PLCs) and committee meetings in collaboration with general education and other district level committees.

  • Excellent understanding of the IDEA, USBE Special Education Rules and LRBI manual, and Granite School District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Utah Essential Elements in ELA, math, and science and Proficiency Based Learning.
  • Works independently with little direct supervision.
  • Works as part of a team.
  • Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative, positive relationships.
  • Ability to work successfully with all stakeholders in a coaching situation.
  • Display effective multi-tasking and time management skills.

Required Education, Training and Qualifications:
  • Requires one of the following:
    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Special Education License Area of Concentration; or
    • an equivalent license in another state or country.
A copy of the applicant's educator license must be included with the application in order to be considered

Required Prior Experience:
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a licensed special education position.
