TITLE:  Benefits Specialist
 
CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt Classified
 
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:  To coordinate and maintain health insurance, other benefits and related records.      
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:  (essential functions)

  • Processes insurance enrollment and termination forms.
  • Coordinates annual open enrollment process.
  • Conducts new employee orientation sessions. 
  • Establishes payroll deduction schedules and ensures payroll deductions are made.
  • Processes insurance benefits according to federal and state regulations and plan provisions.
  • Prepares and reconciles appropriate reports.
  • Addresses employee questions and resolves problems and related issues.
  • Implements and Maintains district’s FMLA process and records
  • Implements and Maintains district’s Workman’s Compensation process and records
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
 
Knowledge of health insurance, benefits and other human resources policies and practices.
Knowledge of Federal Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Statutes, Policies and Procedures
Knowledge of Workman’s Compensation Statutes, Policies and Procedures
Knowledge of office procedures and basic bookkeeping procedures.
Knowledge of office equipment and computer hardware and software operations.
 
Skill in operating office equipment and computer hardware and software applications.
Skill in preparing reports and administering insurance and benefit policies and procedures.
Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
Skill in group presentations.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education or equivalent, preferred
  • High school diploma and two (2) years office experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the required knowledge and skills. 
  • Medical-health field experience, human resources or equivalent, preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English), preferred
