Job Title: Virtual School Intervention Specialist
Job Objectives: The Germantown Municipal School District’s Virtual School Intervention Specialist is expected to provide best instructional practices, which ensure students have a high-quality educational experience evident by socio-emotional growth and academic achievement.
This will also include performing a variety of professional, technical, and administrative tasks to direct the administration of local, state, and national standardized testing of students within the virtual school.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in special education, and reading or math, preferably K-12 certification.
  • Valid TN Teaching license
  • Strong Understanding of Reading foundations
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Conduct teaching and instructional activities, using educational equipment, materials, books, and other learning aids.
  • Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of pupils from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity
  • Review, analyze and evaluate the history, background and assessment of pupils in designing instructional programs to meet individual educational needs
  • Individualize and adapt educational processes and procedures to enhance pupil educational opportunities.
  • Provide group and individual instruction to motivate pupils, and effectively utilize the time available for instructional activities.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of pupil behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement and behavior shaping procedures.
  • Review, analyze, evaluate and report pupil academic, social and emotional growth
  • Counsel, confer with and communicate with parents, school and District personnel regarding pupil progress, and in the interpretation of the educational program
  • Cooperatively pursue alternative solutions to ameliorate pupil-learning problems, and to enhance expanded academic, social and emotional growth opportunities
  • Perform a variety of non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instructional development activities, student supervision and consultation activities
  • Teach targeted interventions to small groups of students daily utilizing research-based strategies and resources
  • Assist with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with Principal
  • Review student achievement and assist with placing students in the appropriate interventions
  • Maintain records of interventions and progress monitoring to insure process fidelity
  • Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information
  • Coordinate and implement universal screenings, benchmark assessments, state, and national assessments
  • Assist with the analysis of the data to identify students in need of response to intervention services
  • Assist in monitoring student’s completion of high school credit, remaining on track for graduation
  • Meeting with seniors once each semester and emailing updates on their graduation status to their parents;
  • Assisting Seniors in their post-high school plans
  • Assisting students with FAFSA/Scholarship opportunities
  • Familiarity with video conferencing
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Superintendent and/or Principal
  • Be prepared to perform the job in accordance with the Teacher Evaluation Plan as established by the district and approved by the State Department of Education

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises students as designated.
Working Conditions: Will work onsite (GMSD campus) with virtual students. Students will attend in-person for certain school events and assessments.
