Automotive Technology Teacher (Maintenance and Light Repair) 

This position is for a classroom teacher who will be responsible for the instruction of Maintenance and Light Repair classes. Other professional and administrative duties may be required as prescribed.

The individual who fills this position should have a genuine call to the educational profession and a desire to see young people reach their full potential. While classroom management is a required element, the creativity of lesson planning, instruction, and assessment are also key elements. Applicants who can add to the overall climate and culture of the school are also desired.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and deliver automotive maintenance and repair curriculum based on key learning objectives, utilizing best practices and various technologies to deliver instruction.
  • Create a syllabus which includes key learning objectives, class norms, attendance and
  • grading policies, work habits expectations, a calendar of due dates for class assignments projects, quizzes, tests, etc.
  • Develop authentic, engaging, hands-on learning projects to meet learning objectives;
  • Implement Tennessee College of Applied Technology curriculum through Dual Enrollment.
  • Develop and maintain contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals, host at
  • least two advisory committee meetings each year;
  • Annually upload required information to the state’s online auditing system and complete paperwork to meet federal guidelines as required.
  • Participate in high school and CTE staff meetings as well as professional development
  • opportunities provided through the district and the state.
  • Participate in student CTE organizations, workshops and competitions (SkillsUSA, etc.);
  • Take part in promoting and marketing the program to meet enrollment goals;
  • Communicate with students’ high school counselors and administration concerning
  • academic, attendance, or discipline issues which affect a student’s learning and/or grades;
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, technology skills, be detailed and team
  • oriented, and have excellent communication skills.
  • Must stay current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline taught;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Director of Schools.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Minimum Education Requirements High School diploma or above

Occupational Work Experience Five years of full time work experience out of the past eight years. Example: Qualifying Areas/Occupations mechanic, automotive technician, service technician, auto body technician.

Industry Certification ASE A-4, ASE A-5, ASE A-6, and ASE A-8 or G-1

Pathway Options
• Associate’s degree in automotive technology, one year of work experience in endorsement area, and industry certification
• Bachelor’s degree in automotive technology and industry certification
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
