Description

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK Under the supervision of the Director I - Information Technology, the Student Information System Administrator is responsible for supervising the Applications Support Specialists and for supporting the use of enterprise software applications that allow the district to maintain its business and student records; supervising project teams for new software, including definition of requirements, facilitation of user and project team communication, and monitoring the project life cycle; providing guidance and expertise to programmers and analysts; performing long-range systems analysis and proposals for upgrades and system changes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supervise and assist maintenance, data entry, data collection, and reporting within Student Information Systems Supervise and assist collecting, troubleshooting, and preparing for upload data for various state and federal reports Responsible for automating data flow and for migrating data between information systems from various vendors Analyze and define user problems in the district and coordinate with users to identify problems to create reliable technology solutions that increase employee productivity Create curriculum for user training to increase employee competencies with applications Supervise and assist in creating master schedules at Elementary, Middle, and Secondary level schools Supervise and assist in creating, extracting, and printing report cards, transcripts, and other school-level reports Assist the system administrator to maintain database operation at peak performance to protect district information and to maintain integrity of data Coordinate projects with related programs and projects and coordinate user definition of requirements between user departments to ensure required integration and achievement of objectives Create queries and reports to provide timely and accurate information to end users Ensure that all state and federal reporting expectations are satisfied for district compliance with mandatory government requirements Facilitate project communications with management, developers, and users to have a common understanding of project results Lead in the development and documentation of software functionality to ensure ease of product use and delivering uniform and consistent packages to users Maintain enterprise software by ensuring patches are applied in a coordinated and timely manner to create reliable technology solutions that increase employee productivity Manage software requirement definitions to comply with district, state, and federal policy and conform to established department software standards, incorporating requirements into project solution, while promoting realistic user expectations Organize and manage project requirements, scope, schedule, and budget; coordinate impact of state or federal requirements and shifts in district priority or resources; negotiate project priorities, information requirements, schedules, and personnel with management and associates; resolve problems, adjust priorities and schedules as necessary to ensure successful project implementations Participate in long-range planning, technology research, and future systems planning analysis for system environment changes Provide a variety of guidance, direction, and training Analyze business practices and make recommendations for enhanced efficiency Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of Student Information Systems (PowerSchool preferred) and large enterprise resource planning (ERP) business systems, software design, and software development fundamentals Knowledge of Human Resource/Financial Management Systems (eFinance Plus preferred) Knowledge of relational databases and reporting (Oracle/MS SQL/Access/SAP Crystal Reports) Knowledge with various programming languages and tools such as SQL, VBScript, Java, C+, C#, and .NET framework Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (macros, formulas, data manipulation and presentation) and Access (imports/exports) Knowledge of Electronic Data Transfer (EDI) and data integration among internal and external systems Must be a strong team player with service oriented skills and the ability to work independently when required Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to effectively train coworkers on complex IT systems Must be able to adapt to changing IT systems and job functions Strong analytical and problem solving abilities Requires a high level of multi-tasking and attention to detail Commitment to confidentiality is a necessity Conflict resolution skills required
