Description

Assists in the overall maintenance of a safe environment by working alongside school administration and conducting surveillance of school buildings, grounds, and activities and ensuring the security of the school by enforcing established rules and regulations.

REPORTS TO:  Principal

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides supervision and protective security for school buildings and premises;

  • Maintains high visibility and supervision throughout the school and on school premises as a deterrent to inappropriate behavior with special attention to the time period during lunch, between classes and after school;

  • Provide surveillance of unauthorized persons on school premises and report their presence to the administration;

  • Checks hall passes of students going to and from class;

  • Checks all windows, doors, and entrances of the building to make certain they are secured daily and reports any physical or mechanical damage to the principal;

  • Works with administration to investigate and report any unusual conditions, disturbances, or possible violations of the Student Code of Conduct;

  • Assists in enforcement of all school rules;

  • Assists at school activities as needed;

  • Assists in the investigation of criminal acts in the school;

  • Assists with emergency situations as needed;

  • Regulates traffic and parking on school premises;

  • Assists in maintaining student attendance;

  • Assists in crowd control as needed;

  • Assists with supervision of students;

  • Works cooperatively with students, staff, and parents;

  • Follows procedures as outlined by school board policy and school administration; and,

  • Other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or higher;

  • Obtain the School Security Officer certification within 60 days of employment and maintain valid certification;

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with minimal direction;

  • Ability to be flexible and able to work with a diverse population; and

  • Ability to display consistent professional behavior.

 EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with safety, security, and law enforcement issues preferred.

  • Experience working with adolescents.
