Position Title: Middle School Mathematics Teacher

Location: Southampton County Public Schools

Salary: $48,200 - $69,718 Based on Experience and Education

Reports To: Principal

Job Summary: The Middle School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for providing comprehensive instruction in mathematics to middle school students. This role involves developing and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student understanding, and fostering a positive learning environment that supports students' mathematical growth and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Planning and Delivery:
    • Develop and implement a mathematics curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
    • Provide instruction in various mathematical concepts, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, such as lectures, hands-on activities, technology-based instruction, and real-world problem-solving, to engage students and enhance learning.
  2. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
    • Assess and evaluate student performance through quizzes, tests, assignments, projects, and classroom activities.
    • Monitor and document student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support academic growth.
    • Adjust instructional strategies and interventions based on assessment data and individual student needs.
  3. Curriculum Development and Enhancement:
    • Develop and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and resources to enhance the mathematics curriculum.
    • Integrate technology and innovative teaching practices into the curriculum to provide relevant and engaging learning experiences.
    • Design and implement enrichment activities and projects to extend learning opportunities for advanced students.
  4. Classroom Management and Support:
    • Create and maintain a positive, organized, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and fosters a love of mathematics.
    • Implement and enforce classroom rules and procedures to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
    • Address and manage behavioral issues in a fair and consistent manner, providing support to help students develop self-regulation skills.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with colleagues, including special education teachers and other subject-area teachers, to support students' diverse needs and ensure a cohesive educational experience.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and other events to build strong relationships with families.
  6. Professional Development and Growth:
    • Stay current with advancements in mathematics education, instructional strategies, and educational technology through professional development.
    • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, contributing to the development of school-wide strategies for mathematics instruction.
    • Engage in ongoing self-reflection and seek opportunities to enhance teaching practices and instructional effectiveness.
  7. Administrative Tasks:
    • Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and other necessary documentation.
    • Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
    • Manage classroom supplies and resources, ensuring they are used effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching certification in Mathematics or secondary education.
  • Previous experience teaching middle school mathematics preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics concepts, instructional strategies, and best practices in education.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and mathematics software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of educational materials.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving manual labor, such as setting up classroom activities and managing supplies.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a classroom setting and may involve participation in school events and activities.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school functions and professional development.
