Mathematics Intervention Teacher

Position Purpose 
Responsible for providing an instructional math program designed to increase students’ math levels of performance serving students at NHS.
optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. 

Salary: $43,125-$67,516 (Commensurate with Experience)

Essential Functions

  • Work collaboratively with team members, grade level teachers, and administrators of assigned schools to develop, update, and implement annual school service plans.
  • Working directly with students 90% of the instructional time.
  • Review assessment results by school and division and participate in the development of an action plan aligned with individual student goals, grade level goals, and intervention plans for 3 services.
  • Uses assessment data to plan instructional decisions.
  • Designs math intervention/remediation strategies for students.
  • Model instructional practices in a variety of settings.
  • Assist staff in designing Continuous School Improvement Plan (SCIP) goals, action steps, reflection, and quarterly data that demonstrates student academic math growth.
  • Stay abreast of national and state standards, and current trends and issues of assigned content area and best practice; serve on a variety of state and local commit.
  • Maintain a log of services provided that will be submitted weekly.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform related work, as required.
  • Attend requested instructional meetings.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license. Travel between schools required.
Work Schedule
Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Contract. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching and curriculum design; demonstrate the ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written communication and interact effectively with staff, parents, students and the community; demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal content; demonstrate the responsibility for own professional growth by seeking continuing education and in-service training programs; demonstrate professionalism by working cooperatively with other staff members, using support services when needed, ensuring that oral communications are clear, accurate, and grammatically correct, respecting the confidential nature of professional information, submitting reports accurately and punctually and complying with administrative directives, individual school guidelines and school board policy; demonstrate self-control in the interaction with the school community; demonstrate good work habits to include  punctual and regular attendance and efficient use of time.
  • Experience and knowledge of best practice in mathematical instructional methods.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to pursue new and continuous learning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively alongside teachers.
  • Must possess the ability to use time efficiently and work with little supervision.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Must possess exceptional public relations skills and the ability to multi-task in various settings.
  • Be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
  • Consult with classroom teachers and administrators concerning mathematics issues.
  • Conduct staff development sessions in reading strategies.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Work in standard office and school building environments. 


  • State Certification as a Teacher or as required for position.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree and be eligible for a Virginia teaching license (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Must have completed a minimum of three years of exemplary teaching experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors.
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject is a plus. 

FLSA Status:       Exempt        10-month position
