Job Title: Human Resources Supervisor

Length of Position: 12 months/Full Time     FLSA: Exempt

Job Objective:The GMSD Human Resources Supervisor assists with the effective management and coordination of staffing and employment for Germantown Municipal School District in order to recruit, develop, and retain an exemplary staff.

  • Master’s Degree and certification in Administration and Supervision and/or
  • Society for Human Resources Management Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) or through the
  • HR Certification Institute (SPHR or PHR)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience as an Assistant Principal and/or
  • Experience with the teacher licensure, evaluation, and support of teachers
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience completing investigations involving staff and/or students
  • Knowledge of Tennessee Code Annotated, particularly pertaining to school personnel
  • Knowledge of Fair Labor Standards Act, FMLA Guidelines, Experience with EEOC claims, and all other employment standards
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate or acceptable
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manages employment actions to include recruitment, interviewing, recommendations for employment, and placement for certified and classified employees
  • Maintains employee records in compliance with local, state and federal mandates
  • Advises school administration of pertinent personnel issues
  • Assists with implementation of policies relating to all phases of personnel activities
  • Works with appropriate departments and staff with the planning and conducting of new employee orientation to foster positive attitudes towards the goals and mission of Germantown Municipal School District
  • Oversees the personnel records including pre and post-employment information, performance evaluations and plans of assistance
  • Assists building level administrators and other supervisory personnel with employee issues
  • Responds to internal and external personnel issues and requests
  • Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in identifying budgetary needs and complies with budgetary constraints for Human Resources
  • Presents oral and written presentations to school staff and other employees
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive employee issues
  • Leads employee investigations as necessary
  • Maintains Frontline GMSD applicant system, twitter, and other digital platforms to communicate all GMSD open positions and relevant employee information
  • Ensures the district is in compliance with TN Teacher Licensure requirements and maintains reporting in TNCompass for renewal of Teacher & Administrator Licenses
  • Conducts employee due process hearings and makes recommendations for employee discipline
  • Establishes and schedules project priorities for Human Resources in consultation with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and staff
  • Meets on a regular basis with Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for sharing information and planning purposes
  • Performs other duties as needed or requested by the Superintendent or the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
  • The Human Resources Supervisor maintains a forty-hour (40) workweek and works additional hours as required to carry out all of the duties and responsibilities of the position
Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of and experience with applicable laws, regulations, and emerging practices pertaining to assigned responsibilities, including current issues and trends in education and human resource activities
  • Knowledge of State of Tennessee and federal regulations and policies regarding personnel matters and employment, civil rights, Title IX, student discipline
  • Skills and ability in organization, time management, task prioritization and record keeping
  • Exemplary skills in written and oral language with the ability to communicate respectfully, clearly and concisely by telephone, in person, and in written form
  • Interprets school district policy accurately and makes appropriate decisions
  • Knows effective educational practices
  • Knows school and district procedures for dealing with students, staff and the public
  • Cooperatively and effectively works in a team environment, including coaching and development
  • Directs activities of subordinates appropriately
  • Cultivates and maintains positive and effective working relationships with staff and public

Reports to: GMSD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
Supervisory Responsibility: District Office Staff who work in the Department of Human Resources
Working Conditions: Exposure to situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable:
Standard office and school environment

Salary: $89,725 - $93,351
