School Summary:

Utah Connections Academy (UCA) is a tuition-free, online public school that serves students in grades K–12 throughout Utah. UCA is authorized under state law by the Utah State Charter School Board and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school is operated by Utah Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Utah, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. UCA is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission, an accrediting division of AdvancED.

Position Summary:

Working from their home office, the Manager of Special Education Services will have accountability and responsibility for effective delivery of Special Education Services and Section 504 Support. This includes direct supervision of Special Education Teachers, Case Managers, 504 Case Managers and Assistant Managers, delivery of daily operations, service delivery, and accountability. The Manager will ensure that the school operates in compliance with all district, state, and federal regulations. The Manager of Special Education will provide expert guidance to support all special populations, monitoring school data for FAPE, and providing innovative ideas to support the department’s growth. The Manager will collect, store, and update data and documentation in a manner that meets or exceeds all compliance expectations. The Manager will ensure that special education teachers are providing a comprehensive special education program that includes specially designed instruction in the least restrictive environment and that all students’ records are accurate and up-to-date.

This role will provide oversight of the IEP process, communicate with parents of students who have or who may have disabilities, engage with related service providers throughout the state, and ensure adherence to special education law and procedures at all times.

This position will coordinate with various internal departments and educational leaders at Utah Connections Academy to ensure a consistently high level of support and communication for students and relevant stakeholders. The Manager of Special Education will contribute to the analysis and recommendations for the improvement of departmental practices and procedures in our effort to deliver a quality service model.

Primary Responsibilities:

Lead the implementation of Special Education Services for assigned customers to ensure the delivery of FAPE for special population students; Ensure the success of each assigned Special Education Program by direct supervision of Special Education Teachers, Section 504 Case Managers, and Assistant Managers; Monitor compliance and delivery of services and take necessary action to correct any issues; Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Special Services Department in order to provide quality service to students and relevant stakeholders. General Responsibilities:

Supervise a group of school-based Special Education Teachers, Section 504 Case Managers, and Assistant Managers ensuring accountability; Responsible for completing USBE UPIPS plan yearly; Prepare for scheduled USBE audits; Track specific measures of FAPE and take action, as needed, as a result of those measures; Monitor & support implementation of standard Federal, State, and CA protocols and procedures; Demonstrate a strong understanding and application of FAPE, IDEA and 504 regulations; Assist staff with implementing any program changes and/or software application introductions; Collaboratively navigate school support throughout complex special populations issues & needs; Develop positive working relationships and effective and efficient communication between UCA and USBE departments, customers, and key stakeholders; Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment where skills are challenged; Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Special Education Teachers, Section 504 Case Managers and Assistant Managers; Model best practices for supervision by following departmental guidelines; Ensure that direct reports exhibit & maintain a high level of professionalism & customer service; Establish and cultivate a positive working culture consistent with UCA core values; Ensure 100% compliance of all IDEA documentation; Consult with teachers and coordinate the implementation of specially designed instruction as defined in the IEP regarding students with specific needs and potential learning issues; Collaborate and engage with the school leadership team; Assist, as needed, with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process; Communicate with providers for students needing related services as mandated by their IEPs; Maintain accurate & up-to-date data in school’s Learning Management System & special education software; Additional duties as assigned.
