Hearing Officer (22/23SY)
DEFINITION: The Hearing Officer will be responsible for serving in an official capacity as the hearing officer for long-term suspension hearings and/or expulsion hearings for students. The person selected for this position will work on as as-needed basis, for a period not to exceed 211 days. The hearing officer will complete the necessary reports after each hearing.

Demonstrate understanding of the Sunnyside District community and demographics.
Demonstrate knowledge of the State, Federal, and School Board policies and regulations regarding student conduct and appropriate disciplinary action.
Demonstrate an understanding of District procedures for hearings, alternatives to suspension, including abeyance contracts; and other procedures as the School Board or the Administration may require.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge about District policies and procedures
Knowledge of school/District culture, District demographics, and approaches to student behavior
Skill in communication, both oral and written, including the writing of suspension/expulsion reports
Skill in reading and understanding policies, statutes, procedures and student reports
Skill in accessing state information regarding statutes and policies.
Skill in using a computer and a tape recorder (used in suspensions/expulsions)
Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting and typing on a laptop computer.
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Valid Driver’s License
Completion of Hearing Officer Training provided by the Trust
At least two years of successful experience as a school hearing office
Possess the ability to travel to and from District office and/or hearing site
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
Rate of Pay: $50.00/hr Start Date: 2022/2023 School Year Additional Information: 2 Positions
