K5 SPECIAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Must hold a license issued by Utah State Office of Education.
The license must be in one of the following types: Special Education (K-12+) (Level 2), Special Education (K-12+) (Level 3).
The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Autism, Deaf-Blind, Early Intervention Specialist, Educational Diagnostician, Emotional Behavior Disabilities, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, Severe/Profound Disabilities, Special Education (General), Traumatic Brain Injury, Visual Impairment.
The license must be in one of the following grades: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.
The license status must be active.
The Special Education Coordinator develops, supports, and guides the implementation of policies and procedures essential to the operation of a compliant special education department. The Special Education Coordinator is essential to the development of successful teachers of students with disabilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, and RESPONSIBILITIES **Monitors special education documents to ensure they are fully compliant and meet both federal and state standards; **Monitors and maintains compliance tracking report **Completes partial and/or comprehensive file audits to ensure compliant and complete documentation procedures **Develops monthly report format and monitors each special education teachers’ monthly submission of these reports; **Interprets data and provides support to special education teachers in determining the steps needed to maintain compliance and/or assist students’ academic progress; **Assists Special Programs Director with compliance to IDEA as requested **Assists with Special Education reporting (e.g., school, local, state, and federal) **Works with the Special Programs Director on compliance-related issues **Assists Principals in assignment of special education caseloads **Provides support to Special Education teachers as needed/approved and works closely with Instructional Facilitators **Collaborates with Special Programs Director to determine professional development needs for both special education department and full staff; **Provides on-going training and mentoring for new and continuing staff members; collaborates with Special Programs Director and District Special Education Staff to design and develop training materials; evaluates the effectiveness of training materials, and makes changes as needed **Develops and presents compliance and/or instruction enrichment training sessions based on data gathered during internal or formal audits **Provides training and support to special education teachers to develop meaningful and measurable IEPs
**Attends school-wide academic team meetings; **Works with instructional leaders to train teachers on the use of data to differentiate and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching strategies; **Attends and/or leads special education team meetings; **Works with principal to identify strategies to support struggling special education teachers **Provides leadership and mentoring to the special education teachers; **Researches innovative tools available for special education usage in a virtual environment; **Reports measures of the progress and performance of special education teachers to the Special Programs Director and/or Principals **Demonstrates a strong commitment to student achievement and supports school efforts to improve student performance **Provides support to all areas of the special education program as requested by the Special Programs Director
