Description
The Behavior Specialist provides positive behavioral support to general education and special education teachers.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Assists school teams in the development of Interim Behavior Plans and Crisis Plans for individual students as requested. - Participates in Student-based Referral Team (SBRT), eligibility meetings, IEP meetings and Manifest Determination Reviews (MDR) as requested. - Provides trainings to school system staff on positive behavioral support, evidenced-based practices, data collection and analysis, and other topics as needed. - Provides ongoing, job-embedded professional development for special education teachers and instructional assistants to build capacity for addressing the many and varied types of behavior issues that arise with students - Provides training for staff on positive behavioral strategies including collecting data on the effectiveness of the interventions - Completes classroom observation of teachers as they implement techniques and strategies, and provide coaching and constructive feedback - Provides consultation to teachers, instructional assistants, and administrators as requested - Works collaboratively with school/division staff as they implement strategies, interventions, and complete FBAs, BIPs, and MDRs. - Supports access to the general education curriculum through training and technical assistance for teachers and administrators - Communicates openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff and administration as a positive representative of Roanoke City Public Schools
