VENTANA VISTA ELEMENTARY
PRINCIPAL

 

Exempt
12 Months
Salary:  $90K-$110K (Based on Experience)

Definition: The Principal of Ventana Vista Elementary provides administrative oversight and instructional leadership for a Spanish Immersion elementary school. The principal plans, coordinates, and supervises all aspects of the immersion program including bilingual curriculum implementation, language development, cultural integration, staff supervision, budgeting, student discipline, and community engagement. Ventana Vista is located at 6085 N. Kolb Road, Tucson, Arizona 85750.

Responsibilities:
    Develops and oversees all administrative procedures. 
    Plans and implements comprehensive instructional programs in support of overall district goals and objectives. 
    Provides leadership for a high-quality Spanish immersion model, ensuring fidelity to program design (immersion structure).
    Ensures balanced development of academic content and Spanish language proficiency across grade levels. 
    Promotes biliteracy, bilingualism, and multicultural competence as core program outcomes. 
    Oversees implementation of curriculum delivered in Spanish and English in accordance with immersion program guidelines. 
    Uses data from both English and Spanish assessments to monitor student progress and program effectiveness. 
    Supports developmentally appropriate language acquisition strategies for diverse learners, including English learners and heritage speakers.
    Oversees educators, providing timely observations and evaluations consistent with district timelines. 
    Recruits, hires, supports, and retains highly qualified bilingual and biliterate staff. 
    Provides coaching on immersion pedagogy, language-rich instruction, and culturally responsive teaching. 
    Coordinates professional learning focused on second-language acquisition, immersion methodology, and biliteracy development. 
    Supports teachers in integrating content standards with language objectives. 
    Ensures appropriate use of Spanish as the language of instruction according to program design. 
    Monitors academic achievement in both languages and leads continuous improvement efforts. 
    Ensures a safe, inclusive, and culturally affirming learning environment. 
    Promotes pride in linguistic diversity and cross-cultural understanding. 
    Investigates student misconduct and determines appropriate prevention and discipline strategies.
    Promotes understanding of immersion education benefits and expectations. 
    Interacts with stakeholders to foster positive relationships with the Family Faculty Organization (FFO), Site Council, and community organizations. 
    Ensures completion of required reports, records, and compliance documentation. 
    Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates operational and facility needs. 
    Acts as liaison between the district and school community. 
    Collaborates with district leaders on curriculum, staffing, and program development. 
    Participates in school-based and district committees and professional meetings. 
    Oversees budget development aligned to immersion program needs, including instructional materials in Spanish. 
    Ensures adequate resources for bilingual instruction and cultural programming. 
    Ensures maintenance and safety of school property. 
    Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications: 
    Possess a master's degree in education, education administration, or closely related field.
    Hold a valid Arizona Administrative Certificate and current license to teaching in the State of Arizona from the Arizona State Department of Education.
    Five (5) years teaching experience.
    Possesses a valid IVP fingerprint clearance card.

Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience as an elementary principal.
    Proficient Spanish and English speaker
    Demonstrated knowledge of immersion education models
    Experience working with multilingual learners
    Training or experience in second language acquisition
    Knowledge of school administration specific to immersion settings
