Description

Syracuse Arts Academy, a well-established charter school located in Syracuse, Utah, is now accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher Coordinator.

Syracuse Arts Academy provides a challenging, accelerated curriculum where academic excellence, character development, and individual growth are nurtured in a safe, orderly and pleasant environment.

This position works to coordinate systems required for academic and behavioral improvement for students with disabilities.

The position will include, but is not limited to following duties:

Behavior and Instructional Coaching • Collaborate with Special Education Case Managers, Special Education Director, and other appropriate staff to coordinate instructional programs and needed curriculum in order to maximize effectiveness of instruction for students with disabilities. • Identify training needs for staff in regards to curriculum and instruction and behavior management. • Collaborate with staff and Special Education Director to facilitate, administer and/or locate necessary training. • Collaborate and provide coaching as needed in order to maximize the effectiveness of behavioral interventions and programming in the Special Education and General Education classrooms. • Facilitate training for software supporting the writing of Eligibilities and IEPs. • Facilitate training for compliant and meaningful IEPs. • Facilitate training for compliance requirements. • Provide necessary coaching to General Education teachers during the pre-referral process. This coaching could include helping the teacher to identify the “problem”, ensure targeted instruction in the area of need, and collect/record appropriate data required. (This step should occur at the team level during PLC’s, team meetings, data meetings, etc.)

Special Education Teacher Support Specialist • Work as a teacher mentor for teachers going through an Alternative Licensure Program, holding a Level 1 license, or those holding and Associate Educator License. o Meet on a weekly basis to discuss teacher questions and concerns. Coordinator should provide constructive feedback and collect follow-up items for additional training. (i.e. scheduling issues, parent-communication, timeline compliance, writing compliant IEPs, managing paras, etc.) o Meet with the Case Manager 3 days prior to IEP meeting to review the IEP draft. o Review data to guide instruction and IEP development. • Work as a teacher mentor during the first year of a Level 2/3 teacher working at SAA. o Meet on a bi-monthly basis to discuss teacher questions and concerns. Coordinator should provide constructive feedback and collect follow-up items for additional training. (i.e. scheduling issues, parent-communication, timeline compliance, writing compliant IEPs, managing paras, etc.) o Meet with Case Managers if needed to review IEP draft. o Review data to guide instruction and IEP development. • Explore the possibility of facilitating PLC meetings with Special Education staff. • Coordinate Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans with Eligibility Coordinator and Case Manager. (Please see guidelines below for Behavior Teacher Expert) • Provide or coordinate Social Skills instruction for students receiving this service. (Please see guidelines below for Behavior Teacher Expert) • Work as designated SST/PLC/Behavior representative for Special Education. o Coordinate necessary At-Risk, Referral and Consent to Test for new referrals as needed. o Contact Eligibility Coordinator once Consent is ready in Embrace. • IEP LEA representative as needed. o Initial Eligibilities - Eligibility Coordinator will LEA unless other arrangements have been made. o *Coordinators will talk to their administration and teams to make a determination on how to allocate IEP meetings. • Assist in De-escalation and Safety Interventions as needed. • Facilitate or ensure that the necessary debriefing process has occurred for those involved in an escalated behavior situation. (Use CPI COPING Model as a guide) • Conduct Internal File Audits as assigned by Special Education Director. (ie. check for signatures, spot check that all notes are included, file is organized and tabbed appropriately, IEP checklist has been completed and is in front of file) • Ensure that services are being provided and properly documented according to IEP. (Conduct audit as necessary or as assigned by Special Education Director) • As needed, provide student scheduling support for teachers. (Does a teacher need help in designing a schedule for groups?) • Conduct accommodation audits as assigned by the Special Education Director. • Coordinate instructional coverage as needed if a substitute is unavailable. • Work as Student Case Manager as assigned . • Proactively seek assistance from Special Education Director as needs arise. • Obtain and Maintain current CPI certification according to school requirements. • Other Duties as assigned
