Parent Resource Coordinator
The Parent Resource Center’s Parent Coordinator provides parents of children with disabilities information and support to work collaboratively with schools to identify and meet their child’s unique needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides information, trainings, and workshops on the various special education processes (child study, eligibility, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, etc) for parents and members of the community.
Develops and maintains a professional library of materials for parents and professional staff.
Meets with parents to problem-solve or provide resource information.
Assists families with understanding the Virginia Department of Education Procedural Safeguards for parents as well as other local, state, and federal mandates. Provides resources regarding mediation and dispute resolution for special education matters.
Actively participates on the WJCC Special Education Advisory Committee.
Serves as a resource to the community for special education.
Serves as liaison between home and school for parents of students with disabilities.
Oversees the active surrogate parent list, provides training to those requesting to be certified as a surrogate parent and assigns surrogate parents to students who require them.
Performs duties and responsibilities under the supervision of the Director of Special. Requires the ability to work independently under general instruction with deadlines.
Requires exceptional public relations skills and the ability to multi-task in various settings.
