Description

Summary/Objective

To counsel, provide educational guidance and crisis intervention services to individuals and groups.

Essential Functions

Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to job, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner. Provide crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur. Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss children’s progress, resolve behavioral, academic, and other problems, and to determine priorities for students and their resource needs. Identify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and encourage students or parents to seek additional assistance from mental health professionals. Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situations. Counsel students regarding educational issues, school adjustment, truancy, and study habits. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. Teach classes and present self-help or information sessions on subjects related to SEL education. Provide special services such as alcohol and drug prevention programs and classes that teach students to handle conflicts without resorting to violence. Conduct follow-up interviews with counselees to determine if their needs have been met. Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employed. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all policies, regulations and rules. Perform related duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner. Other Duties

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a 9-month, full-time position, contracted for 148 days between July and May. Employee will work ten hours per day Monday through Thursday. Employee may need to work extended hours.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s or more advanced degree from an accredited institution. Official transcripts must document completion of a graduate program in one of the following: guidance and counseling; counseling, social work or psychology; or academic advising.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience working with children

Required Certifications/Licenses

Standard School Counselor, PreK-12 Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
