Assistant Director of Facilities Management Job Description


Job Title: Assistant Director of Facilities Management


Credentials: Current Oklahoma driver’s license with acceptable driving record


Education: Bachelor's degree and construction experience preferred


Training or experience required: 5-10 years experience as a supervisor in

transportation, maintenance, school operations or related experience.  Experience in planning,

budgeting, purchasing, and personnel preferred.


Site: Central Services


Reports to: Director of Facilities Management


Contract: 260 Days


Salary Schedule: Off-Scale Support


FLSA Classification:   Exempt  


Essential Job Functions:

Perform supervisory duties under minimal supervision to assist the Director of Facilities Management with the physical day-to-day maintenance operation of the Norman Public School District as well as organize, direct, and evaluate security, maintenance, and repair personnel, while keeping the Director informed at all times.


Interpret policies and procedures and follow predetermined solutions established by higher level supervision or operating procedures and utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job.


Serve as a liaison between architecture firms, principals, general contractors, the school treasurer and all agencies involved in the construction of new school buildings. Organize meetings with vendors and coordinate work performed cooperatively by staff personnel and external entities. This will involve discussions with the Chief Operating Officer and the various department heads.


Perform data recording/record keeping operations determining what changes need to be made to existing digital and hard copy records.


Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or that will assist the Director of Facilities Management and/or Chief Operating Officer.


The Assistant Director is required to be both inside and outside during all types of weather. There are some risks attached to supervision of staff in their particular job assignment (boiler room, asbestos inspection, etc.).  In addition, the Assistant Director is required to be on call and report in case of emergency.  


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

For successful performance of the job, it is critical that customer service/people skills are present.  The Assistant Director is required to have a strong commitment to safety guidelines and policies and clear direction for department employees as well as a commitment to enforce district standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns.

Ability to read and interpret complex written or printed materials such as schematics, blueprints, or building plans, contracts, regulations.


Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving is critical to the success of the position.
