Must hold a license issued by Utah State Office of Education.
The license must be in one of the following types: Secondary - ATC only (Level 1) , Secondary - ATC only (Level 2).
The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Chemistry, Science (General).
The license status must be active.
St. George Academy, a public college preparatory charter high school, is seeking an experienced full-time teacher to develop and teach a Chemistry course and its associated laboratory curriculum. Advanced placement and elective courses in the discipline can also be developed in future academic years. This position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops foundational and advanced mathematics aptitude in each student. Faculty will play critical roles in the development of the Science program and the school as a whole.
Essential Duties 1. Teaches classes that focus on content and skills in chemistry to high school students, utilizing curriculum parameters established by Utah Core Standards but also developed by the faculty of St. George Academy. 2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in the regulations and procedures of St. George Academy. 3. Adapts material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students. 4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the school's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course/USOE standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. 5. Communicate knowledge in an interesting, stimulating, and effective manner, using a variety of instructional methodologies, curriculum resources, and materials 6. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other record-keeping activities as necessary. 7. Encourages students to think independently and critically, and to express original ideas. 8. Evaluates each student's progress in meeting the course standards for chemistry knowledge and laboratory skills. 9. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. 10. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems. 11. Communicates with parents and school administrative team on student progress. 12. Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day. 13. Participates in faculty professional learning communities and the collaborative, collective responsibility culture of SGA faculty. 14. Administers testing in accordance with department and institutional testing practices. 15.Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
