Job Title: Native American Education Program Liaison for Rural Areas (Wendover Schools/Ibapah Schools)
Department: Federal Programs Title VI Department 
*This is a temporary full-time position for 2021-2022 school year (2nd year full-time employment possible with funding availability)


Job Summary 
The Native American Education Program Liaison for Rural Areas, working under the direction of the Federal Programs Director, will work closely with Native American students of Tooele County School District (specifically in Wendover and Ibapah rural locations) to advocate, support, and communicate Title VI students' needs within the district/schools.   The Native American Education Program Liaison for Rural Areas will promote and implement strategies to ensure the academic success of Native American students (such as tutoring, video conferencing academic support for Digital Education students, academic/attendance check-ins, before/after school homework or academic support sessions, etc.).  The Liaison will support inclusive practices for promoting family engagement within the Wendover and Ibapah schools while also communicating to families and students the services/offerings available through the district and local and state organizations. Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Promotes positive relationships and fosters improved communication across schools, administrators, and educators with Native American families, Tribal community leadership, and community partners.
  • Plans, informs, and/or facilitates Native American family engagement, educational, and monthly cultural enrichment activities through collaborative work with rural area schools, the Tribal community leaders and/or Tribal parent committee(s). 
  • Meets regularly with Native American students (in-person and in virtual sessions) to review, support, and plan for students’ individual academic progress/success. 
  • Provides on-going research and guidance to students regarding post-secondary options including application and scholarship opportunities. 
  • Encourages Native American students and their families’ participation within schools in Wendover and Ibapah.  
  • Maintains open communication with administration, school teams and families to work together to improve academic success school attendance, and social emotional needs of Native American students in rural areas. 
  • Provides updates and communication with TCSD administration and teachers and with the Confederated Tribe of Goshute Reservation for continued advocacy for CTGR students.
  • Coordinates efforts and activities with the Tooele Valley Native American Education Liaison.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Federal Programs Director. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 
  • Must be 21 years of age or older; 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (traveling is required for this position); 
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; preference towards an associate degree or higher  
  • Experience working with Native American Education programs, diverse cultural populations, or similar multicultural organizations; 
  • Previous successful experience working with students and school educational teams; 
  • Proven ability to organize, coordinate, facilitate program activities involving families and/or groups of students; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, parents, employees at all levels in the organization and with others in the community; 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, understand and follow data privacy rules and regulations related to students; 
  • Ability to be a self-starter, work independently and proactively; 
  • Ability and proven record of reporting to work regularly and punctually. 
Qualifications Profile

   The Native American Education Program Liaison will work in an instructional capacity for two Title I schools: Wendover High School and Anna Smith Elementary. As per federal/state requirements, the paraeducator/liaison will need to complete any of the following combination of education and experience: 
  1. Have a minimum of 48 semester hours from an accredited institution of higher education OR  
  2. Have an associate's (or higher) degree from an accredited institution of higher education OR
  3. Pass the ParaPro Test by ETS with a score of 460 or higher (ParaPro Test to be administered upon hire for candidates not meeting any of the above requirements). 
 
FLSA Status: Exempt 
Support Professional Salary Schedule: B1 from FY22 classified salary schedule + NESS pay  
35 per week, equal pay
