Job Summary
Operates a computerized high volume copy system complete with finishing functions.  Operates folders, cutter, booklet maker, and other bindery equipment. Attendance and physical presence are required and is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
  • Processes print jobs on high volume copying system.
  • Inserts materials, programs, and runs machines and copiers, etc.
  • Properly maintains equipment (cleaning and performing preventative day to day service, etc.) in good running order.
  • Receives orders matching the needs of those requesting service, helps users obtain best results from available equipment.
  • Assists district employees with the use of their software and drives for the purpose of submitting documents via the district mail network and or using the world wide web (ftp) sites to transfer files to printing department.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies needed for the operation of the high-speed copier.
  • Performs other functions utilizing cutter, folder, collator, booklet maker, drill, stitcher and other equipment.

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Must be able to effectively operate a high-volume electronic copier. 
  • Must be proficient with copiers’ operating hardware.
  • Must be proficient in document preparation and scanning hard copy and or downloading electronic files for output.
  • Must understand workflow, quality expectations and planning for copier. 
  • Must be proficient with printing software (Windows, NT, Sun Microsystems, etc.).
  • Must have interpersonal skills in dealing with end users and helpers.
  • Must possess good memory and be able to concentrate on job and machine details in spite of noise and schedule demands.
Required Education and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent

Required Prior Experience
One-year job-related experience.
Assigned Decision Making
With the use of the department work in progress sheet, prioritizes own work schedule.  Automated equipment used is highly complex. Must be able to determine when service technician should be called or in some cases make minor adjustments.  Orders consumable supplies such as toner, fuser oil, developer, tape bind, wire, etc.
Interactions with Others
Has positive interactions with teachers, secretaries, principals, repairmen, and other district personnel.
Supervisory Responsibility
May supervise student helpers and others involved in the printing process.
Budget Responsibility
Financially responsible to maintain and track purchase card usage and follow purchasing guidelines.
Maintaining and tracking of inventory.
Working Environment
Works in a press room environment.  Exposed to noise, odors, harsh cleaners, solvents, and some exposure to machinery and chemicals. Must move boxes of paper and supplies to put on shelves or use in the machines.  Requires repetitive light moving (floor to waist) and manipulation of paper including, but not limited to, loading paper reams and stacking.  Pressure to meet deadlines varies with orders and rush work on a regular basis.  Work requires a high degree of concentration and a good memory.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear.  Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.  Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 75 lbs.
