The Virtual Virginia (“VVA”) Content Developer will work with the Curriculum Development team to create digital content that aligns with College and Career Readiness Standards. The Content Developer is responsible for creating modules of well-designed and appropriately aligned online lessons, assignments, interactives, and instructional materials.

All asynchronous course content will align with the College and Career Readiness standards, and the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) will align to the English Language Proficiency standards. Courses will consist of differentiated lessons and assessments will be designed to provide 60 hours of student engagement, which is tracked through Canvas LMS student performance data. A variety of assessments using Canvas LMS tools will allow for personalized instructor feedback to be delivered via annotation on documents, written text, audio, and video. Instructor guides will provide recommendations for pacing, differentiation, supplemental media, and synchronous session support. Course content will be culturally responsive and will incorporate the U.S. Department of Education’s Employability Skills Framework and Teaching Skillsthat Matter skills, topics, and approaches. Course content will provide support for a variety of lexile levels.


Content Developers for each of the following 3 Mathematics courses (two writers per course):

  • Mathematics (ABE Levels 1–2)
  • Mathematics (ABE Levels 3–4)
  • Mathematics (ABE Levels 5–6)

NOTE: this is a part-time, project-based position that requires 10 hours or less per week.

  • Develop digital content and instructional materials that align to appropriate state and national standards 
  • Understand and apply Quality Matters principles and National Standards for Quality Online Courses to content development practices
  • Submit content and instructional materials for review by the project deadlines
  • Respond positively to constructive criticism and incorporate all requested revisions as part of the Development Process
  • Demonstrate a commitment to copyright compliance and accessibility standards in content development practices


  • Certification in the content area
  • Recent teaching experience in Adult Education
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work independently
  • Desire to improve online and blended learning
  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication  
  • Experience developing curriculum


  • Three or more years of recent teaching experience in the specified course
  • Curriculum development experience for online courses 
  • Experience in teaching online with Virtual Virginia or another online provider 
  • Experience developing video content for online courses
  • Experience developing interactive content for online courses
  • Training in Quality Matters Understanding the K-12 Rubric and/or Reviewer Course
