Job Title: Oklahoma Parents as Teachers Parent Educator
Education: Oklahoma teaching certificate in one of the following:
Early Childhood Education
Have a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following:
Family and Consumer Sciences
Training or Experience Required: Demonstrated ability for working with young children and their parents. Upon employment, completion of Oklahoma State Department of education approved professional development regardless of previous training and experience, according to the following schedule:
Initial employment for OPAT:
A minimum of 30 hours pre service training from a Parents as Teacher National Center Birth to Three Institute, or 12 hours if serving only as a coordinator.
Continued Education during Employment:
First year – a minimum of 20 hours professional development
Second year – a minimum of 15 hours professional development
Third year and every year thereafter – a minimum of 10 hours professional development
Special Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Communication Skills (oral, written, or business): Basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms. Communicates on phone in clear, grammatically correct English. Knowledge of grammatical structure, vocabulary for preparing correspondence from rough draft or proofing of completed material.
Data Recording/Record Keeping: Performs data recording/record keeping operations determining what changes need to be made to existing records, including computerized records.
Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations requiring knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals and/or percentages.
Reading and Interpreting: Reads and interprets routine written or printed materials such as charts, diagrams, maps or instruction material.
Business Machines (like computers, copiers, etc.): Uses business machines that can be easily learned from simple manuals or simple verbal instructions. Such machines include but are not limited to photocopiers, fax, computers and multi-line telephone consoles.
Office Filing and Retrieving: Responsible for establishing and/or maintaining an existing filing system.
Spelling Skills: Position requires excellent grammar, spelling and proof reading skills.
Job Goal: Plan and implement the Oklahoma Parents as Teachers program in accordance with the guidelines of the Parents as Teachers National Center and the Oklahoma State Board of Education. This includes supervising program staff and overseeing recruiting of program participants and monitoring provision and progress of services.

Reports To: Director of Early Childhood
Essential Job Functions:
Successfully complete the Parents as Teachers National Center Birth to Three Institute and parent educator certification.
Plan and make monthly personal visits at times convenient for parents.
Participate in recruitment activities.
Conduct developmental screening yearly.
Conduct monthly group meetings with parents.
Complete personal visits records.
Prepare reports as needed on services provided to children and families served.
Plan/facilitate regular OPAT staff meetings.
Participate with in-service training activities.
Provide education to community on OPAT and the services they provide.
Submit monthly statistical reports for the Child Services Demonstration Center.
Monitor program progress and assist in evaluation of outcome.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions: Other than those physical/mental requirements included within the essential functions: Must be able to communicate on the telephone; must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Terms of Employment:
Contract length: 195 days – 195 B calendar
Work Schedule: Flexible Hours as assigned (29.5 hours weekly)
Salary Schedule: $10.00 per hour
