THE SCHOOL BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Research Specialist CONTRACT YEAR: Twelve Months PAY GRADE: 27 BARGAINING UNIT: BTU-TSP MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: An earned master's degree from an accredited institution. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Degree majors in statistics, research, education, information systems, educational psychology, childhood development, psychological sciences or related fields. Coursework in any of the fields of testing, evaluation, statistics, research methodology or operations research. Demonstrated experience in the use of computer applications, specifically SPSS. Demonstrated experience in writing reports that present technical data to nontechnical audiences. Demonstrated experience in the presentation of research and evaluation findings to groups such as administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and members of the community. Demonstrated experience in research design in field settings. Proficiency in the development of surveys and psychometric measures. Computer skills as required for the position. PREFERRED: A doctorate degree is preferred. Bilingual skills. REPORTS TO: Department Director or designee SUPERVISES: Employees as assigned POSITION GOAL: To select and implement evaluation models. To prepare and compile data for annual state and federal evaluation reports. Interpretation of statistical data, including inferential tests, to determine effects as related to all variables affecting student achievement. ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The Research Specialist shall: 1. assist in all preparation phases of a project as it relates to the publication of a program evaluation through the Department of Research and Evaluation. 2. coordinate annual needs assessments and district-wide summarizations of database information. 3. analyze data, write reports and disseminate evaluation results. 4. process and coordinate program evaluations. 5. develop instruments for in-service evaluation. 6. review published tests for possible use in future evaluation. 7. conduct technical quality-oriented analyses of psychometric tests to determine item appropriateness, and reliabilities and validities. 8. perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida. 9. participate in the training programs offered to enhance the individual’s skills and proficiency related to the job responsibilities. 10. review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities. 11. ensure adherence to good safety procedures. 12. follow Federal and State laws, as well as School Board policies. 13. perform other duties as assigned by Department Director or designee. SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS –frequency, contact, purpose, and desired end result: Works with internal staff on a project team to analyze and validate testing instruments and evaluate results. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board. FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY: Job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy.
