Position Purpose: The Elementary Reading Specialist is responsible for collaborating with all teachers K-3, the MTSS & Assessment Coordinator, the Early Literacy Lead, Principal, and Academic Director to oversee the early literacy program in Pleasant Grove.
Description of Responsibilities: ? Assist teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators with the development of instructional practices that lead to high levels of literacy development for students ? Gather, organize, and interpret data to help guide instruction ? Work with individuals or groups of at-risk students on reading/literacy skills. ? Progress monitoring student performance data in collaboration with teachers, Instructional Coach, MTSS & Assessment Coordinator, and Administration. ? Ensures that all requirements of special education regulations are implemented in direct alignment with LEA, state, and federal requirements and regulations. ? Identifies goals of the early literacy program in collaboration with the MTSS & Assessment Coordinator and the Early Literacy Lead. ? Ensures that the school program is compatible with the legal, financial and organizational structure of the school system. The Principal defines the responsibilities and accountability of staff members and develops plans for interpreting the school program to the community. ? Ensures that LEA and State required assessments are implemented appropriately, including staff training, overseeing test administration, maintaining current databases, and providing timely data reports. ? Provides activities which facilitate student progress. ? Ensures that instructional objectives and curriculum for all subjects are implemented with fidelity according to student literacy levels. ? Maintains inter-school system communication and seeks assistance from the Principal and Academic Director to improve performance. ? Maintains good relationships with students, staff, and parents, including frequent and appropriate communication and seeking input from all relevant stakeholders. Any other duties as assigned by administration.
