Secondary Mathematics Coach--Part-Time
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia teaching licensure
  • Strong content knowledge in mathematics

  • Experience teaching mathematics in grades 6-12
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
 
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • mathematics instructional strategies
    • student academic success and assessment
    • remediation strategies
    • Virginia Mathematics Standards of Learning
    • classroom management
    • data use, analysis, interpretation and display
  • Strong communication, organizational, and writing skills
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, challenge students to participate in intervention
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
 
  • Support the academic progress and growth of mathematics students at the secondary school level
  • Assist is strengthening mathematics conceptual understanding and skills that classroom teachers and administrators have identified as students’ areas of need
  • Work in conjunction with classroom teachers to:
    • provide small group mathematics instruction within the classroom setting
    • develop support model and areas of focus
    • align direct support with the Virginia Standards of Learning
    • assess and identify students who require Tier II and Tier III interventions
    • implement Tier II and Tier III academic interventions using research-based methodology and best practices in mathematics
  • Provide progress monitoring data to teachers and administrators
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, division mathematics specialist, and administrators regarding instructional strategies/interventions in place for Tier II and Tier III support
  • Regularly seek guidance and feedback from classroom teacher and division mathematics specialist
  • Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of each student to ensure success
  • Maintain appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices
  • Administer informal and formal assessments
  • Evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives
  • Attend all required professional development
