The Reading Tutor will:
· Implement small group instructional routines which include explicit instruction, modeling, guided practice, independent practice and authentic application of vocabulary, word study, comprehension, and fluency components. · Establish clear objectives for all lessons based on formal and informal student assessment data and the Virginia Reading and Writing SOL. · Utilize a variety of intervention, engagement, and cognitive strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. · Assess the specific reading strengths and needs of students in the program. · Integrate the use of current instructional technology applications that appeal to middle school students. · Assist students in setting academic goals based on formative assessment data. · Collaborate with Language Arts teachers and other staff as necessary to discuss the needs of students. This position will work approximately 20 hours per week.
