Job Description: TEACHER

 

Supervised by: Child Development Specialist/Supervisor of Program

Supervises: Classroom Volunteers/Substitutes

 

General Description:

The classroom teacher, in collaboration with the assistant teacher, is responsible for planning, organizing and carrying out activities to provide for the physical, social-emotional, nutritional and cognitive development of children in the Virginia Preschool Initiative Program (VPI), as detailed in the Performance Standards and VPI Regulations. 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Responsible for a classroom of 20 four year old children.  The  Pre K teacher is responsible for classroom arrangement and weekly lesson plans to meet goals and objectives of the program Virginia Building Blocks and in alignment with the Head Start Performance Standards.

 

Planning and Coordination -  Collaborate with the assistant teacher to develop lesson plans, outlining daily classroom activities and individual plans to meet the children’s needs within the curriculum. The instructional team provides ongoing observation, recording and evaluation of each child’s growth and development for the purpose of planning activities.  

 

Teaching - Perform teaching tasks as directed by Child Development Specialist (CDS) and Supervisor as outlined in the curriculum.  Actively participates in indoor and outdoor activities with the children and co-teacher.

 

Screening and assessments – In accordance with the VPI and HS Program Performance Standards each child will be assessed and screened with an age-appropriate tool(s), beginning with an initial screening within the first 45 days of school.

 

Communication – Participate in regularly scheduled supervisory, center team, student, and staff meetings. The Pre K Teacher is responsible for using an Orange County Public Schools email address to facilitate electronic communication. Teacher will communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.


Record keeping - Responsible for maintaining and providing designated records on an ongoing basis (Volunteer sheets, daily attendance, Case Notes anecdotal records, and individual assessment, My Head Start tool,  etc.) in accordance with the policy on confidentiality.
