Middle School Assistant Principal
Must hold a license issued by Virginia Department of Education.
The license must be in Postgraduate Professional License.

Positions in this class serve as assistants to the principal in the middle school. The assistant principal supports the principal in administering the instructional programs and is a member of the team responsible for providing instructional leadership for the school. The work involves responsibilities, as assigned, for developing and implementing a sound instructional program, supervising and evaluating the performance of staff members, maintaining the school plant facility, and serving as the liaison between the school and community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Promotes an effective and efficient instructional environment at the school by giving and receiving information and assistance, resolving conflicts, providing for safety, cooperative and collaborative efforts. • Assists in the observation, evaluation, and training of faculty and support staff. • Develops curriculum and/or provides supervision for specific programs, as assigned. • Assists in the monitoring of student attendance and grading procedures. • Carries out a variety of administrative responsibilities including budget and fiscal procedures, disciplinary procedures, and community relations. • Assists in the preparation of a variety of reports, forms, and surveys, and the maintenance of inventory and other records. • Maintains communications and liaisons with parents and community. • Assists in coordination and supervision of operational and support services activities such as transportation, field trip schedules, student activities, fire and other emergency procedures and drills, community use of building(s), and building maintenance. • Makes recommendations for hiring and terminating employees. • Participates in the development and implementation of student progress reporting activities and timely submission/communication and records management tasks. • Plans and supervises special events such as athletic and non-athletic student activities, assemblies, parent workshops, and staff development, orientation for students, staff, and parents, as assigned. • Assists in the supervision of security and custodial staff to promote school safety. • Attends professional meetings, workshops, and conferences for professional development. • Participates in Special Education meetings for eligibility, I.E.P. procedures, and student studies. • Serve as principal designee in principal’s absence as required or assigned. • Performs related work as required or assigned.
