Position Purpose 

Performs difficult professional work appraising and meeting the sociological needs of individual students and determining disabilities; coordinates attendance and other student services; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Chief of Administrative Services (Student Services Department).


Essential Functions 


  • Obtaining and analyzing data to determine sociological needs of students; assuring that all children are enrolled in and attend an educational program; preparing and maintaining student and program records.
  • Conducts sociocultural evaluations and administers adaptive behavior assessments;
  • Serves on child study and triennial review teams and eligibility and manifestation hearing committees;
  • Writes sociocultural reports;
  • Transports school records;
  • Investigates attendance problems and provides appropriate interventions; develops procedural safeguards for special education students in reference to attendance;
  • Meets with parents to review and obtain parental signatures for IEPs;
  • Serves on committee to develop alternative programs for high-risk students;
  • Attempts to locate difficult to find parents or students;
  • Provides sociocultural consultation to school personnel;
  • Conducts surrogate parent training;
  • Conducts home visits;
  • Makes referrals to appropriate agencies for assistance to students;
  • Assists in updating policy manuals;
  • Attends a variety of staff and position related meetings;
  • Writes documentation of home visits or parent contacts;
  • Prepares mileage reports;
  • Assists in developing special education policies and procedures;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Additional Duties 


-  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements 


-  Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. 


Skills, Knowledge, Abilities 


  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, methods and techniques used in the special education process for assessing sociological needs of individual students;
  • thorough knowledge of federal and state mandates and local procedures and regulations relating to special education programs;
  • ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers and administrators;
  • ability to operate a personal computer;
  • ability to work with and through other school personnel, parents and community agencies.


Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards 


-  Works in standard office and school building environments. 


Qualifications Profile 


Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree Social Work.
Possession of Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in School Social Work.


 Terms of Employment
  • Salary Range:   $51,063 - $77,727
  • Contract:          12 Months Employment
  • Benefits:           Employer Portion Paid Retirement, Life Insurance, Contribution to Medical Insurance, Sick Leave and Personal Leave.
FLSA Status:       Exempt
