Mountain View High School is a grade 10-12 comprehensive high school serving over 1,300 students. It is currently classified as a 5a school for athletic competition by the UHSAA and is likely to continue as such. Region alignments have not yet been determined for the 2021-23 school years.

  Job Summary:
The Head Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for various aspects of the Basketball Program, such as recruiting within the school, scheduling opponents (in conjunction with the Athletic Director), training assistant coaches, and coaching student athletes.
The Head Boys Basketball Coach is required to abide by the UHSAA rules and regulations as well as the rules and regulations set by the Alpine School District Board and the athletic administration at Mountain View High School. Beginning June  15, 2021
Paid by Stipend: 1-2 yrs $3,438, 3-5 yrs $4,298, 6-10 yrs $5,147, 11-15 yrs $6,017, 16+ yrs $6,876
Potential Basketball Class: 1 semester ≈  $3,000 when paid hourly.

Job Specifications:

In order to be successful in this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Essential Responsibilities:

Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship. Lead the MVHS Basketball community through culturally and racially informed best practices.
Use a variety of positive coaching techniques and technology to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in basketball.
Coordinate the development and promotion of the Basketball Program. Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development. Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate in the basketball program. Create meaningful relationships with Mountain View boundary youth basketball coaches and players. Provide direct instruction where appropriate for MVHS Youth Basketball coaches and players.
Ensure all basketball coaches work together toward a common goal within the basketball program and provide unity within the youth community programs. An understanding and application of Double Goal coaching is anticipated (Growth and Achievement.) Assess players’ skills and assign team positions which are connected to a concrete depth chart. Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation. Encourage and personally demonstrate  sportsmanlike conduct at all times.
Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying.
Maintain and secure all basketball equipment and uniforms.
Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment. Create a plan & schedule repair or replacement of equipment as needed. Maintain records to ensure compliance with all pertinent UHSAA regulations, including eligibility, by following all requirements for athletes and using Register My Athlete.
Instruct and inform students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices  

    Assist student athletes with college recruitment.
Assist the Athletic Director with the scheduling of games and coordinate arrangements.
Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, and other organizations. Communicate regularly with guardians and student athletes. Oversee content creation and articles for the website www.mountainviewbruins.org Participate in special activities to include senior night, banquets, award nights and pep assemblies.
Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding athletic performance of their student. Work in conjunction with the athletic trainer and strength & conditioning coach to follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury, promote injury prevention,  and encourage high performance. Represent Mountain View High School and the Basketball program in a professional manner.
Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. Actively train assistant coaches on best practices. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
 

Additional Knowledge/Skills/Dispositions:

Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount. Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of NFHS, UHSAA, and ASD rules, regulations and policies. Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student- athletes.
Skills:
The applicant must possess the ability to communicate in spoken and written words. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
The applicant must possess the ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the field. The applicant must be willing to accept a high level of accountability.
The applicant must possess the ability to assess players and coaches effectively.
Dispositions:
The applicant should be professionally calm and motivationally intense.
The applicant should be a progressive thinker but a believer in planning and preparation.
 

Qualification

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):

3 years of experience coaching basketball at the high school level (head coaching experience preferred). Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (UHSAA/ASD), opponents, officials, staff, parents, and students.
