Job Description The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to fill its Orientation & Mobility Specialist position located in Ogden, UT. This position will be working with all divisions of the Blind School at USDB. A flexible schedule is required in order to provide services after school and sometimes on the weekend.
Principal Duties: As an Orientation & Mobility Specialist you will: Teaches expanded core curriculum subject matter, correlated with other appropriate learning activities. Develops lesson plans, adapts curriculum to meet individual student needs in areas of the expanded core, and utilizes effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction. Understands and uses computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction. Maintains classroom organization and discipline. Establishes and maintains a standard of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment. Devises and utilizes techniques which accurately measure students’ progress. Evaluates student academic and personal growth, keeping appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Communicates and cooperates with other professional staff in academic, functional and personal growth areas. Demonstrates professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. Conforms to school policies, including attendance, absences, and evaluations. Improves professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional growth activities. Provide direct Orientation & Mobility (O&M) services to blind/visually impaired students, ages 3-21, in a variety of educational settings. Provide O&M assessments for students on caseload. Consult with parents, educators, and vision consultants. Responsible for writing progress reports, updating student records, etc. Improve professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional growth activities. This position is based out of Ogden and travel to all USDB campuses is required.
