Job Summary:

This position is responsible for writing and managing the Gang Prevention and Intervention Grant; including writing and updating the grant each year.  The specialist will provide training for educators in conjunction with Metro Gang Unit’s Choose Gang Free program.  The specialist will help with Safe School intake interviews and provide training to staff as well as teach the SAFE courses to families and students. The specialist will help with Spanish translation in the Prevention and Student Placement office, both with students and parents, and assist with guardianship issues. 

Essential Functions:

- Apply for and manage the Gang Prevention & Intervention Grant.
- Assist department director in deciding where grant funds will be allocated each school year based on available data. 
- Gather, analyze and report grant data (monthly, mid-year, and end-of-year).
- Meet with school administrators to discuss the grant, programs, and staff placement.
- Provide training and support for program staff & schools.
- Participate in grant-related trainings and conferences.
- Collaborate with community partners to implement programing and secure donations for program student incentives.

Non-essential Functions:

Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Posess strong computer and educational technology skills, including utilizing software applications as needed (Windows, Google Drive, Microsoft Office).
- Updating and maintaining consistent and accurate program documentation. 
- Communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Build collaborative partnerships with district and school staff as well as outside agencies and stakeholders.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Display effective organizational, scheduling, and time management skills amid time constraints.
- Effective administer a budget.
- Knowledge of multiple methods for gathering necessary data.  
- Collaborate with law enforcement, youth corrections, probation officers, and the court system.
- Work effectively with At-Risk students.
- Maintain professionalism in high stress situations

Required Education and Qualifications:
- Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a licensed educator position.
- Requires applicant to be fluent in both Spanish and English.
- Requires one of the following:

- a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education; or
- an equivalent license in another state or country.

Working Environment:
- Work takes place in typical school and office environments.
- Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
