Benefits Specialist Job Description
Job Title: Benefits Specialist
Credentials: None required for this position.
Education: High school diploma or GED
Training or experience required: 5 years of successful employment as a secretary or administrative assistant with school district experience, preferred. Must have strong computer experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of PowerPoint, Publisher, and other software knowledge desirable.

Contract: 260 days
Salary Schedule: PERSONNEL PAY TABLE
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Essential Job Functions:
Enroll employees in insurance programs: explain benefits, cost, and enrollment procedures.
Enroll employees in insurance programs during Option Period (open enrollment).
Maintain monthly billing for EGID.
Maintain monthly billing for American Fidelity.
Maintain monthly billing for VOYA.
Act as a liaison with insurance companies regarding employee concerns.
Maintain proper benefit deductions in MUNIS.
Maintain an accurate electronic record (scanned) of all insurance elections and beneficiaries in TCM.
Resolve all discrepancies in payroll regarding benefits.
Complete all surveys regarding benefits.
Keep apprised of all state and federal laws in regards to benefits.
Add FBA for new hires and insurance changes.
Mail COBRA packet as necessary for compliance.
Maintain and accurate electronic record (scanned) of retirement verifications in the TCM system.
Maintain monthly billing for health and life benefits, American Fidelity billing, Flex accounts and Purchase items.
Communicate employee concerns regarding health and life insurance with insurance companies, medical providers, etc. Act as a liaison concerning insurance concerns.
Process death claims.
Maintain proper deductions regarding employee’ paychecks. Resolve any payroll problems that occur.
Assist with communication to employees to assist with cost containment; better/more cost effective utilization of insurance programs, etc.
May assist with new employee orientation and induction information for all new employees. Provides payroll with necessary documentation on insurance.
Perform clerical support functions using word processing and spreadsheets. Receive, direct and perform simple interviews of visitors; handle telephone calls, and provide assistance or technical information concerning policies, procedures, and other details. Take and deliver messages.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills and to handle problems and provide information and technical assistance as requested. It requires complying with safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to staff or to students. It requires following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns for staff. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving are critical to the success of the position.Help manage the computerization of school district operations. Provide training and support to district staff in the use of administrative computer systems. Perform such tasks to the ultimate benefit of the educational program. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job. Since there may be several ways to solve a problem, an incumbent is free to choose the solution.
