City Academy is seeking a very special Counselor with the passion and energy to help create an aspirational learning environment for our students, faculty, and staff. We are looking for an experienced educator who functions successfully in an independent small school environment.
Opened in fall 2000, City Academy is a small public 7th – 12th grade charter school in downtown Salt Lake City dedicated to helping students achieve academic and personal success, fostering responsible engaged citizenship, and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. This year we began our work as a part of the Utah Personalized Competency-Based Learning (PCBL) schools grant supported project. We are immersed in further developing our school culture with a flexible, interesting, "can-do" approach to learning, while also personalizing and caring for the needs and desired educational pathways of every student.
With our location right in the heart of Salt Lake City, near the state capitol building and legislature, and at the base of the University of Utah campus and the Wasatch Mountains we utilize these valuable community facilities and resources to augment and make whole our educational and extra-curricular activities and programs. At City Academy learning is centered in our city. Additionally, each of our seniors completes a service learning internship as a part of graduation requirements.
Our new Counselor will work in collaboration with the Principal, Special Education Coordinator, and Lead Teachers to help plan and manage student programs and each student’s best personal success. The Counselor will also take an active role similar to a Dean of Students who is engaged daily with students, parents, and teachers to uphold and further develop the positive aspirational school culture of accomplishing each student’s best achievement and behavior in ways that build community and attract, retain, and graduate successful young people.
